Ingredients:

For the Stew:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (or ground cumin)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ¼ teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • 3 cups green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Juice of ½ lemon

For Serving:

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • Fresh cilantro or mint leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Drizzle of olive oil or chili oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the aromatics:
    Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
    Add chopped onion and cook for 5–7 minutes until soft and golden.
    Stir in garlic, ginger, cumin, turmeric, coriander, and chili flakes.
    Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Add the peas and broth:
    Add green peas and pour in the broth.
    Bring to a simmer and cook for 10–12 minutes until the peas are tender.
  3. Blend (optional):
    For a creamier texture, blend half of the stew using a hand blender, then stir it back into the pot.
    (Leave some peas whole for texture.)
  4. Season and finish:
    Add salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste. Stir well.
  5. Serve:
    Spoon the stew into bowls and top with a generous dollop of yogurt.
    Garnish with chopped herbs and a drizzle of olive oil or chili oil.
